“Dynamic Painting”
Born in 1956 in Russia of the former USSR. Immigrated to Canada, in 1996.
At this moment I am probably an artist, first of all. In the meantime I am known to many as a computer programmer. Many years ago I have completed a course of a Fine Art school. I was considering the Surikov Academy of Fine Art, [one of the most significant Fine Art colleges in Russia] but I was stopped by a possibility to be called up to the army [unlike technical universities, colleges in Russia don't grant a postponement of a call up to the obligatory army service].
Therefore I went to a university and, upon completion I was graduated as cybernetics engineer. Then I worked as a system programmer for many years. I was keeping on painting, but only when I had free time, and only for my own pleasure. When the concept of dynamic painting came to my mind, I did my best to unite my artist's abilities and my programmer's experience. In my opinion, the result of that turned to be quite an interesting combination of fine art and modern technologies. |

The idea was simple, to force a picture to live in time, meaning, to turn a static picture into a dynamic one. Dynamic sculpture is known since quite long ago as a branch of the fine art, but the dynamic approach has never been applied to conventional pictures. And moreover, it seemed to be impossible, how one could force paint to vary? Modern technologies came to help that. Instead of traditional canvas, I use LCD computer screen. Basically, the image on the screen is created by the computer. But the subject of the picture, its color and stylistic concept are created by the artist. In other words, the artist creates the esthetic approach and the basic principles of creation of a picture, and then the computer, based on that, creates millions of variations of the subject. At this stage it is very important to realize that without an artist's imagination, without his creative input, computer can do virtually nothing.
